Sr. Design Engineer

Report to: Design Head

About Company:

Urja Disha Boiler Technologies is an extended Design office for global OEMs & End users, with experience in wide variety of technologies for combustion of fuels for steam generation, fired heaters, and utilization of waste energy for plant utilities, with a track record of delivering highly efficient, reliable, and cost-effective designs in shortest cycle time.

Job Purpose/Objectives:

Be responsible for day-to-day Engineering activity and grow the business while being responsible for handing over Projects. This includes effective delivery, cost, quality, safety and work environment.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • To support Project leader and team.
  • Prepare design and documents with accuracy and in time.
  • Punch your man-hour bookings in software daily religiously and accurately.
  • Teach product deep features to juniors through discussions with other team members.
  • Attend various new product and skill trainings.
  • Develop high competency in product knowledge and designing techniques.
  • Check your design outputs through template before releasing to customer.
  • Help project leaders for planning and monitoring of projects.
  • Develop design plan for the projects to be executed.
  • Attend meetings with customers, end customers, suppliers, consultants as and when required.
  • Attend weekly project review meetings with concerned team members.
  • Highlight concerns from time to time to project leaders, department heads, and management.
  • Visit customers, end customers, and vendors as required.
  • Coordinate with all internal team members for smooth project execution.
  • Attend site visits, meetings for pre-sale, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and troubleshooting calls from customers.

Knowledge, Experience and Soft Skills:

  • Graduate in Diploma/BE Engineering in Mechanical.
  • Min 7-10 years of experience in designing process equipment like boilers, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, steel structures, piping, ducts, etc.
  • Good hands-on experience with IBR calculations, thermal design, STAAD Pro, CAESAR, AUTOCAD, etc.
  • Deep understanding of various codes: IBR, ASME Sec 1, ASME Sec VIII, IS 800, BS31 & 31.3, PTC 4.1, etc.
  • Thorough fundamentals in thermodynamics, heat transfer, structural analysis, piping analysis, fluid dynamics, metallurgy, instrumentation and control, electrical, etc.
  • Very good understanding of manufacturing, erection, and transportation techniques for boiler parts, pressure vessels, steel structures, etc.
  • Ability to work in a team, guide team members, and excellent communication skills in Marathi and English.

Piping Design Engineer

Report to: Design Manager

Job Purpose/Objectives:

To execute high-quality piping design and stress analysis for boiler and power plant systems, ensuring compliance with international codes, safety standards, and project specifications. The role involves developing precise piping layouts, conducting stress analysis using CAESAR II, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver reliable, cost-effective, and timely engineering solutions that meet client and regulatory expectations.

Principal Responsibility:

  • Develop comprehensive piping layouts and isometric drawings for boilers and power plant systems using CAD software such as AutoCAD, in collaboration with the drafting team to ensure accuracy and adherence to design specifications.
  • Review and verify all piping deliverables, including drawings and material specifications, prior to release for fabrication and construction, ensuring compliance with project standards and design requirements.
  • Conduct detailed piping stress analysis using CAESAR II software to assess structural integrity under various static and dynamic load cases, including thermal expansion, pressure, dead weight, seismic, and wind loads.
  • Evaluate critical parameters such as piping displacements, equipment nozzle loads, support reactions, and thermal growth to ensure system reliability and safety.
  • Recommend and design suitable pipe supports, including spring hangers, rigid supports, anchors, guides, snubbers, and expansion loops, to effectively manage stresses and maintain system integrity throughout operational conditions.
  • Ensure all piping designs, calculations, and analyses conform to applicable international codes and standards such as ASME B31.1 (Power Piping) and ASME B31.3 (Process Piping).
  • Prepare and review detailed stress analysis reports for client submission and internal quality assurance, documenting assumptions, methodologies, and results.
  • Develop purchase specifications for critical support elements, such as variable and constant spring hangers, expansion joints, and other engineered supports, coordinating with vendors for technical compliance.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams—including process, mechanical, structural, and civil departments—as well as with clients, to ensure timely and efficient execution of project deliverables while maintaining high design quality and safety standards.

Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Behavior:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 3–5 years of piping design experience, including at least 2 years of hands on Caesar II stress analysis.
  • Proven track record of delivering projects in boiler and power plant sectors.
  • Caesar II: Model building, load case setup, troubleshooting convergence issues, interpreting results.
  • CAD: AutoCAD
  • Codes & Standards: ASME B31 series, relevant ISO/API standards.
  • Additional Software: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), Navisworks
  • Strong analytical and problem solving abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication in English.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work independently or in cross functional teams.
  • Effective time management and ability to meet deadlines in a fast paced environment.
